Itinerary
Day 1: Manali to Dhundli
- Elevation: Approximately 8,000 feet
- Depart from Manali and drive to Dhundi, the starting point of the trek.
- Begin trekking towards Bakarthach, passing through lush forests and meadows.
- Camp overnight at Dhundi, acclimatizing to the altitude and enjoying the serene surroundings.
Day 02: Dhundli to Bakarthatch
- Elevation: Approximately 10,800 feet
- Trek from Dhundi to Bakarthach, ascending gradually along the Beas River.
- Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
- Set up camp at Bakarthach, nestled amidst picturesque meadows, and spend the evening exploring the area.
Day 03: Bakarthach to Beas Kund
- Elevation: Approximately 12,772 feet (Beas Kund)
- Trek from Bakarthach to Beas Kund, the source of the Beas River.
- Marvel at the breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks and the pristine glacial lake.
- Spend time at Beas Kund, soaking in the tranquility and beauty of the surroundings.
- Return to Bakarthach for an overnight stay, enjoying a well-deserved rest after the day’s trek.
Day 04: Bakarthach to Manali
- Descend from Bakarthach to Dhundi, retracing the trail back to the starting point.
- Bid farewell to the scenic beauty of the Himalayas as you make your way back to Manali.
- Conclude the trek with fond memories of the Beas Kund expedition and depart for your onward journey.

Preparation Guide
Physical Fitness
Engage in regular cardiovascular exercises like hiking, jogging, or cycling to build stamina and endurance.
Incorporate strength training exercises to strengthen leg muscles and core stability.
Practice hiking with a loaded backpack to simulate trekking conditions.
Altitude Acclimatization
- Plan for at least a day or two of acclimatization in Sonmarg or nearby areas before starting the trek.
- Stay hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking to minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
- Ascend gradually and listen to your body’s signals to recognize symptoms of altitude sickness.
Packing Essentials
- Clothing: Pack lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing suitable for layering, including thermal innerwear, fleece jackets, waterproof and windproof outer layers, trekking pants, and woolen socks.
- Footwear: Invest in sturdy, well-fitted trekking boots with ankle support and good traction.
- Gear: Bring a comfortable backpack with padded shoulder straps, a rain cover, trekking poles, a sleeping bag rated for low temperatures, a lightweight tent or shelter, a headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries, a multi-tool or knife, and a first aid kit.
- Accessories: Carry a wide-brimmed hat or cap, sunglasses with UV protection, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, a water bottle or hydration pack, water purification tablets or filter, quick-drying towel, and toiletries.
